Different learners. Different needs.
A shared opportunity to learn.
Read in the Way That Helps You
You can use written lesson material alongside the audio.
- Foundation eBook: English dialogue and supplemental text appear in the lesson. Choose Check translation to view Chinese or Spanish separately, then return to English.
- American Accent: choose Show Text to reveal the dialogue. You do not have to finish listening before revealing it.
- Citizenship Practice Listening: choose Show Question Text and Show Answer when you want to read. Study mode also provides written questions and answers.
Use your browser’s zoom or text-size controls if you need larger text. On a Windows computer, Ctrl and + usually zoom in, Ctrl and − zoom out, and Ctrl and 0 restore the default size. If enlarged text overlaps a control or becomes difficult to reach, please tell us which page you were using.
Listen at Your Own Pace
Foundation eBook starts at 0.80× speed with ECHO on. ECHO adds a pause so you can repeat aloud. You can pause playback whenever you need more time, replay the lesson, or select normal speed. ECHO off lets you speak along with the audio.
American Accent offers normal and slower model audio where those controls are shown, with individual-line playback for dialogue practice. Citizenship includes question and answer listening controls and playback-speed choices.
The written material lets you review the words without listening. Pronunciation, rhythm, and listening exercises still rely on sound, so written text alone does not provide every part of those activities.
Recording Is Optional
In American Accent, you may use Record & Compare to hear your voice next to the model. You can also read, listen, and practice aloud without recording. Microphone permission is needed only for recording features.
Foundation’s ECHO pauses do not record your voice. If a microphone is unavailable or you prefer not to use it, continue with the text and playback activities. See our Privacy page for details about recordings and saved information.
Using a Keyboard
The programs use standard buttons, links, lists, and form controls. Use Tab to move forward and Shift + Tab to move back. Use Enter to follow a link, and Enter or Space to activate a focused button. Arrow keys operate many selection lists and audio-position sliders.
Where a Skip to content link appears when you press Tab, it takes you past the website navigation. Keyboard behavior can vary by browser and device; please report any control you cannot reach or activate.
What We Are Still Checking
Our current programs include headings, labeled controls, text alternatives for some images, and selected status announcements for assistive technology. We have not completed a full accessibility audit or verified every activity with screen readers, keyboard-only use, or high zoom. We are not claiming full conformance with an accessibility standard.
Some visual material, including book covers and the restaurant-menu image, may not provide an equivalent text experience. Downloadable textbook PDFs have not been verified as fully accessible. If either format creates a barrier, contact us about the material you need.
We welcome reports about text contrast, focus visibility, reading order, small controls, overlapping content, or unclear audio instructions. These reports help us identify and prioritize improvements during beta testing.
Tell Us What Would Help
If you encounter a barrier or need material in another format, please email Language Link. Include the program and lesson or page, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser, or assistive technology you used. You do not need to disclose a disability or medical information.
Tell us what format or adjustment would help. We will discuss the request with you and look for a practical way to support your learning.
