Teacher Resources

Practical guidance for your classroom.
Confidence for every learner.

The Foundation Textbook

SEE · HEAR · SAY

Begin with the most frequently used English words in everyday conversations. Choose the student’s Chinese or Spanish edition on the opening page, then open the textbook.

Keep the lesson in English while students listen and speak. When meaning is unclear, use Check translation, then return promptly to English. The translation is a separate view, not a second line beneath the English.

Beginner audio settings

Start with 0.80× speed and ECHO ON. Students listen, then repeat during the pause. Pause or replay whenever more practice is needed. As students become comfortable, try normal speed and ECHO OFF so they can speak along with the audio.

Dialogue audio continues into the supplemental automatically. ECHO provides a speaking pause; it does not record the student.

The Language Link Learning Loop

FOUNDATION ENGLISH

Work on the next lesson and revisit the previous seven. The review button uses the lesson currently open. Early in the textbook, it reviews the available earlier lessons.

Example: ready for Lesson 21

  1. Open the student’s profile and choose Lesson 21 from Choose a lesson.
  2. Practice Lesson 21’s dialogue and supplemental with the audio.
  3. Before choosing Complete & Next, select Review previous 7. This reviews Lessons 14–20.
  4. Use Next review lesson to move through the review. Finish review returns to Lesson 21.
  5. Choose Complete & Next to mark Lesson 21 complete and move to Lesson 22.

Use Return to Lesson 21 if you need to leave the review early. On the next visit, the eBook resumes the saved lesson or unfinished review for the selected student. Return using the same device, browser, and website address.

From Textbook to Workbook

HEAR · WRITE

At Dialogue 20, introduce Dictation 1 in the Workbook. It returns to Lesson 1 in the Textbook. Students now hear and write language they first learned by seeing, hearing, and saying it.

Continue following the Workbook’s dictation sequence back through the earlier lessons. This delayed review is intended to strengthen the foundation in long-term memory.

Let students listen and write before checking the corresponding English text. Review difficult phrases aloud together. The English-only Workbook serves students across the different native-language textbook editions.

Managing Shared Devices

FOUNDATION EBOOK · TEACHER SETTINGS

On the opening page, choose Teacher Settings.

  • Choose a student: select the profile and choose Use selected student.
  • Add a student: enter a classroom nickname or student number and choose Add Student. The new profile begins at Lesson 1.
  • Start over: select the student, choose Reset Progress, and confirm. The profile stays, but lesson and Learning Loop progress start over.
  • Remove a departing student: select the student, choose Remove Student, and confirm. Add a new profile for the incoming student.

These profiles are stored in the browser and are not password-protected accounts. Anyone using that browser profile can access them. Resetting and removal cannot be undone. For complete browser-data clearing instructions, see Privacy.

American Accent

LISTEN · PRACTICE · RECORD · COMPARE

Use American Accent’s own dialogue, supplemental, Conversation Starter, and Rhythm material. Its lesson content and audio are separate from the Foundation Textbook, even when a topic or dialogue is similar.

  1. Choose the dialogue. Use Listen First, then Show Text when students are ready to read.
  2. Replay difficult lines using the normal or slow control provided.
  3. Use role practice, Conversation Starters, or Rhythms to extend speaking practice.
  4. Offer Record & Compare so students can hear the model and their own voice. Recording is optional.

Before another student uses the same page, close or reload it to discard practice recordings. Clear saved goal-check-in answers separately with Clear My Answers. Foundation’s Teacher Settings do not manage American Accent data.

Citizenship Practice

LISTEN FIRST · REVEAL WHEN READY

Use Study mode for reading and discussion, or Practice Listening to hear a question before revealing the text and answer. The question selector lists numbers so it does not reveal the question wording.

In Practice Listening, select the intended next new question. Choose Save this as my next new question to retain that starting point. Choose Review 7 before this question to review the preceding questions and then reach the selected new question.

The Citizenship Learning Loop reviews questions; the Foundation Learning Loop reviews lessons. Citizenship progress is saved in the browser, without Foundation’s separate student profiles. Its Reset Progress control leaves the saved Learning Loop position intact; see the full clearing instructions when reassigning a shared device.

Classroom Copying Permission

Teachers may print and photocopy Language Link textbook and workbook pages as needed for students in their own classes, without requesting separate permission. Please retain copyright notices and attribution. This permission does not include resale, public uploading, or redistribution of digital books or audio files.

See Copyright & Permissions for the full details. Share public program links with students rather than uploading copies of the digital books or audio.

Help Us Improve

During beta testing, tell us whether students can find their lesson, understand the controls, and use the Learning Loop independently. We especially welcome feedback on 0.80× beginner speed, ECHO pause length, and readability on phones.

For a problem report, include the program, lesson or question number, device and browser, what happened, and what you expected. Remove student names and other personal information from screenshots.

For a learner who needs another format or assistance using a control, see Accessibility & Learning Support.
